It Looks Like This (sorry, no ice cream)

Well, Edwards Could Try This Approach

I've never been a debater, but I suspect that while this answer by Edwards would get some people up off their sofas cheering, it might not be deemed sufficiently "Vice-Presidential" by most voters. It brought a big smile to my face, though.

Warning: contains language that just might offend.

Letters From Iraq

The Bush Administration and the conservative press and weblogs like to complain that the So-Called Liberal Media distort the news from Iraq.

Fair enough. Here are some letters sent to Michael Moore by American servicemen and women serving in Iraq.

Howie the Hack

You'd think a guy who makes his living as a media critic would be more careful about checking his sources.

It's All Over For the A's

Perhaps this is intemperate and premature of me, but with the complete collapse of the "big three" this year and the inconsistency and mismanagement of the bullpen, I have to wonder how long it will be before Oakland pitching coach Curt Young and/or manager Ken Macha get their pink slips.

Debate Coverage

Sadly, this may be way too true to be funny.

Eisenhower for Kerry

Another Republican (well, former Republican), John Eisenhower, son of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, endorses John Kerry for President.

Welcome aboard.

Flag Protection Amendment

There's another move afoot in the Senate to pass an amendment outlawing burning or other desecration of the American Flag. You've all surely noticed that flag burnings is one of the most pressing problems in our country today.

I've addressed in a lengthy previous post how I feel about amendments in general and this one in particular. It doesn't seem to me that there is a burning need to amend the constitution to increase government control on free expression, particularly when the true goal is not to ameliorate an actual problem but for politiicans to publicly posture while wrapping themselves in the flag. Don't let them get away with it.

You know what to do...contact your Senators telling them how you feel about this.

End Selective Service Registration, too

In a recent entry, I encouraged you to contact your representatives in the House to oppose HR 163 and your senators to oppose S89. If you haven't done so already, please do. You can find how to contact your Senators and your House Representatives at http://thomas.loc.gov/.

While urging your representative in the house to oppose HR 163, take the time to encourage him or her to support HR 4746, the Selective Service Registration Termination Act, which would, as the title implies, end Selective Service registration for all males. Let's take the loaded gun out fo the nightstand. Let's make it that much harder for them to draft our children.

Bush & Illegal Immigrants

Much to my surprise, in his interview with O'Reilly , Bush didn't say anything about the illegal immigrant issue (well, aside from his support for NAFTA) that I disagreed with.

Global Warming

Nuclear proliferation and large amounts of unsecured nuclear material may be two of the greatest threats to this country's security, but over the course of the next century global warming and its effects around the world and how the world's nations respond to those effects may pose a greater threat than all others combined.

The problem for politicians with this possiblity is that the nuclear problems require only that we tell other governmnents how to change their behavior and in some cases change the behavior at the highest levels of our government. To address the problem of global warming, our leaders need to convince all of us to change our behavior. With the exception of Dennis Kucinich, none of the Republican or Democratic presidential candidates this year have demonstrated the honesty or courage to even try to do this.
