Jon Stewart Takes on Crossfire

Jon Stewart Takes on Crossfire

In this clip (link through Media Matters For America), Jon Stewart takes the fluffheads at CNN to task for failing America in it's shepherding of America's political discourse. Jon is bright, funny, earnest, and sincere and Tucker Carlson comes across as a shallow twit in a bowtie. Jon says the things so many of us, given the chance, would love to say to these people.

Comment Tucker Carlson reminded me of the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Jon kept cutting off Tucker's body parts but Tucker didn't seem to know it and kept wading back in for more. What stuck with me after watching this clip is that Jon was much more passionate about what Begala and Carlson do than they are. They are just playing at being Washington insiders and Jon is aghast at the opportunity for making a change in the world that they are missing. They don't seem to really believe in or care about anything, they are just playing the "debate" game. This becomes really obvious by Carlson's inability to discern the fundamental difference between Crossfire and The Daily Show, between what his show is purporting to be about and what Stewart's is about. Crossfire is a political news show, about the people who run this country. The Daily Show, as Stewart repeats every where at every chance, is a "fake news show." It's on Comedy Central, while Crossfire is on CNN (Cable NEWS Network). Carlson's an ass, but he so neatly represents so many of his colleagues, from George Will (who used to affect a bow tie) on down.

Comment Interesting clip. Jon really sticks it to them. Even managed to sneak in a direct personal insult at the end too.
