Negroponte has to be rejectedWith the revelations of prisoner abuse and murder in our Iraqi prisons I hope Congress takes a long hard look at John Negroponte, our newly named ambassador to Iraq, and then quite roundly and publicly rejects him. With his record of complicity in human rights abuses in our client nations in Central America in the 80s, you can bet the rest of the world, the Arab world in particular, will be watching this nomination to see if for once, this administration, hell, this country, is willing to walk the walk. |

Hmmm...it seems I missed the boat on this one. Negroponte was confirmed by the Senate on May 6 by a 95-3 vote. Kerry was one of the two no-shows. My crypto-fascist senator, Feinstein voted yea, no surprise there. More surprising is that Boxer, who seems to be feeling a need to appear a little bloodier lately, what with this vote and her lust for the blood of a cop killer in San Francisco, also voted yea.
Anonymous, you forgot, probably because you ran out of breath, a Congress that seems to have forgotten that it is a branch of government separate and equal with the Executive branch. Lead by boot-licking Republicans and a relatively spineless Senate minority leader, this Congress may well be the most ineffectual in the history of the Republic.
I wouldn't hold my breath.
We have an arrogant, morally self righteous, paranoid psychotic running the country, a Secretary of Defense who doesn't believe in the Geneva Convention or International Law, a Vice President who's telling people to "get off his (Rummy's) case, a Commander of Forces over there supposedly cleaning up the same prisons wherein he RECOMMENDED those same interrogation tactics back last year....this whole sorry, regrettable episode will get a LOT worse before it gets any better.
